Contact Lenses
Contacts lenses are ideal for many patients based on their lifestyle and eye care needs. There are numerous types, options and considerations when matching patients to the correct lens. Dr. Chen has unique expertise across the full spectrum of contact lens applications, including astigmatism, monovision, multifocal, specialty cases and orthokeratology.
Contact Lens Examinations
Contact lens examinations are comprehensive eye exams that also include contact lens services such as initial contact lens fits, re-fits, and evaluation and renewal of current contact lenses. You will also receive education of proper contact lens management and contact lens application/removal training.
There are many types of manufactured soft contact lenses, including monthly lenses, bi-weekly and daily replacement lenses. The doctor will determine which type of contact lenses are the best fit for your eyes and lifestyle. Some patients need basic spherical soft contact lenses, while others may require astigmatism correction contact lenses. Older patients may be interested in monovision or multifocal contact lenses that will allow them to see both distance and near.
Specialty Contact Lenses
Specialty contact lens evaluations are complex fits for “difficult-to-fit” eyes, offered to patients who may have high astigmatism, high myopia (nearsightedness), corneal scars, severe dry eyes, or irregular corneas from LASIK complications or keratoconus. Some contact lens options include rigid gas permeable, scleral, hybrid or custom soft. Each lens has multiple curves and each curve is intricately and individually designed to fit the patient’s eyes.
Orthokeratology
Orthokeratology refers to a non-surgical method of improving vision using rigid gas permeable contact lenses that gently reshapes the cornea to reduce the refractive error. The contact lens fitting process takes a few months, but the potential outcome of good vision without relying on glasses or undergoing refractive surgery is worth it for many patients. Orthokeratology is also common referred to as Ortho-K, overnight vision correction, corneal refractive therapy and CRT.
